In this talk, Prof. Wendy Matsumura (UCSD, History) examines the task that lies before researchers and teachers who engage Okinawa Studies from within the settler colonial university. Centering Okinawan peoples’ anti-imperialist struggles across the wartime divide, the talk illuminates methods, frameworks, and practices that can disrupt how the settler colonial, neoliberal university consumes and weaponizes area studies and its practitioners.
