Please join us for a critical dialogue on the contemporary political and socio-economic conditions that continue to displace communities across Guatemala. We will focus on the role of alternative media, transborder networks, and the rising criminalization of Guatemalan migrants in two regions of the world. This presentation is based on research and advocacy conducted across Southern California and Guatemala.
We will be joined by Azalea Vasquez, host of Tejiendo Centroamérica (Radio Jornalera, California) and long-time migrant advocate; José Sicajau, Director of AGUND (Asociación de la Sociedad Civil de Guatemaltecos Unidos por Nuestros Derechos); and Danny Steven Sanchez, Ph.D. student (UCSB Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies). Dr. Julio Orellana, 2023-2025 UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellow (UC Santa Barbara), will be moderating the event. Sean Contreras will be helping with technical support.
A light lunch will be served.
